Work From Home – Be Ready For Murphy’s Law

For anyone who plans to work from home, tragedy and disaster can strike at any time, in any form. Force majeure is a reality which has to be prepared for in advance if you want to avoid problems for your business. Do you have a plan of action on how you will handle your home business if disaster were to strike? If not, it is time to put your thinking cap on. Having a plan ensures that you can not only keep your business running, but decrease stress because you have already prepared for the unexpected.

I have listed four methods which you should utilize to prepare yourself for negative occurrences.

1. Do whatever you can to work through these negative events. Customers are more understanding than many business owners give them credit for. So long as you explain your situation to your customers, they will more than likely be sympathetic. Just make sure that if you constantly communicate with and update your customers upon the status of their purchase. If it becomes clear to you that you are unable to perform, make sure that your customers are the first to know so that they can make alternative arrangements.

If you are in a situation where you are trying to juggle your work, and caring for a sick child. Put yourself in a position that you are able to place your focus on your child first. Make sure that you keep a list of all of the tasks which need to be completed each day. After your child has gone to sleep, you can focus your attention on completing these tasks. Keep in mind that sick children tend to sleep quite a bit, so you should be able to complete your work on time. Having a list will enable you to look at the list, and know what needs to be completed rather than trying to deal with a sick child, and recall tasks by memory. This will help to put your mind at ease.

2. Ask for help. As parents, we tend to feel that we should be able to handle everything. Unfortunately, this just is not always the case. There are times when we need to allow ourselves to ask for help. When a tragedy occurs, and you are simply overwhelmed, find someone who you trust and ask them for help. Many times, just having someone reply to customers on your behalf can take the pressure off your shoulders.

Letting someone assist you when necessary can be liberating to that individual. The individual now knows that they have done a good deed, and can feel good about themselves.

3. Of course, we always want to be optimistic. Nonetheless, we have to prepare as though we are the most pessimistic set of individuals on the planet. I would rather be safe than sorry, and I hope that you feel the same way. Therefore, if you live in a flood region, such as the Fargo, North Dakota Red River Valley, make sure that you have a plan of action in place in the event of a flood. Likewise, if you live in an area which is susceptible to hurricanes, such as New Orleans, LA, or Daytona Beach, FL, make sure that you have a mechanism in place which will protect your business from becoming bankrupt should your area get hit by a hurricane. For example, do you have a place to go which is not threatened?

4. Make Your Plan. There are times when life becomes overwhelming, and you simply are not able to accomplish everything on your own. These are the times at which you need to have some type of system in place of what you do, and what needs to be done. Keep a ledger of tasks which need to be completed, how often they are completed, and check them off as completed as you are able to complete them. Keep a list of all of your passwords in a secure place. Make sure that your family (or whoever may be helping you during this time) is able to carry on even in the event that you are away from home.

Ideally, you will want to walk someone through the steps of what you do on a day to day basis. Thus, if something should come up, you will be prepared.

Realize that when tragedy strikes, it generally does not give any warning signs. However, if you are ready for the worst case scenario, certain stressors can be averted. It is of the utmost importance that the work from home entrepreneur take steps so that the home business will not be harmed in the event of a calamity. Those who take steps to prepare for adverse situations, do not have to stress about their business during such situations.

If any of you currently Work From Home, you must be ready in case things go badly quickly. Your Home Business will last through the difficult times if its owner knows how to respond to difficult situations.

Work At Home – Looking At Freelance Customer Service

customer service Work From Home Be Ready For Murphys LawPeople usually view opportunities to work at home as being synonymous with making money online. While this is often the case, it is not necessarily the case. This is particularly true when it comes to the work at home call center. As it turns out, a growing segment of at home workers are providing customer service to businesses from the comforts of their own homes. This is an option for the person who want to work at home, but does not wish to bare the responsibilities of running their own business.

Often times when you call the customer service number of a company, you are actually speaking to a representative who is working out of their own home. As such, these positions are somewhat abundant. For the most part, companies are looking to hire representatives who are polite, professional, courteous, possess solid computer skills, and who can focus on the task at hand. Usually these positions have a prerequisite of one year prior customer service experience, and phone support experience is often preferred. Of course, if you can bring the ability to speak multiple languages to the table, you become more valuable.

I know that there is someone who is reading this article and thinking that they do not have a good enough phone voice to be a work at home call representative. To this person I say, do not rule yourself out just yet. The truth is that there is a growing faction of businesses who are opting to go with a live chat service in lieu of verbal customer support. This is becoming a very common practice for new businesses.

Nevertheless, I must advise you to know all of the facts upfront prior to engaging in any business. This includes work at home call centers. Just make sure that you are clear on how much you will be paid, what your schedule will be, what equipment will be required of you, whether you will be reimbursed for purchasing such equipment after a period of time, how many calls you can expect per hour, etc. Make sure that you always have a written copy of your agreement which has come from an authorized agent of the company should any discrepancies occur. When it comes down to it, I think that the work at home call center is a good option for those of you who want to work at home, but do not want to own a home business. Just make sure that you conduct your own due diligence on any company prior to agreeing to work for them.
